Foundation of John Paul II. in Oravská Polhora was established by the initiative of eleven natives from Oravská Polhora and Rabča.

Foundation´s purpose is:

• to support the activities which aim to project realization of statue and square of John Paul II. in the village Oravska Polhora to honour and get better know Pope John Paul II.
• to support spiritual, cultural , environmental, health and education values

About Foundation:

Foundation is specific property cooperation which supports public. The organisation chart is following: Board of Trustees (highest authority of the foundation), Foundation administrator (executives of the foundation), Foundation inspector (control authority of the foundation). The Board of Trustees decides where and how to use donation. This Board of Trustees includes representatives of church, village and private sector. Responsible person makes   yearly report with the overview of all donators as well as used financial purposes

Importance and reason of realization:

Inhabitants of Oravská Polhora have a very close relationship to Pope John Paul II. His visible sign began by building the memorial in year 1996 on top of the Mount Babia (Babia hora) , where each year the Mass is celebrated. We will celebrate fifteenth anniversary in August 2011.

From all Slovakian villages is our village Oravská Polhora the nearest village to Wadowice- birthplace of John Paul II. Between Oravská Polhora and Wadowice is very close cooperation for several years already. Pope is therefore symbolically pictured as he arrives from Poland, crosses Polhora ´s border and blessing Slovakia.

Our enthusiasm is even more encouraged by beatification of Holy Father which was done on 1 st May 2011.
